International Association for CMM manufacturers
The most significant I++/DME interoperability demonstration in the world at ia.cmm stand at CONTROL 2008
Among its major objectives, ia.cmm – the international association of co-ordinate measuring machine manufacturers – promotes CMM technology standardization. For this reason, ia.cmm will be present for the fourth consecutive year with its own stand at the CONTROL 2008 exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany.
Metris alongside other members of the association will demonstrate I++/DME interoperability by running its CMMs with any of nine different metrology software applications. ia.cmm offers a unique opportunity to witness the level reached by I++/DME in 2008.
I++/DME is an initiative sponsored by Audi, BMW, Daimler, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo with the objective of increasing efficiency and reducing manufacturing times and costs through interoperability of software and hardware components used for dimensional inspection.
In practice, I++/DME is an interface that allows a dimensional inspection part program to be run on different brands of measuring machines, provided that this standard is supported by the specific CMM. Consequently, the Metris CMM will be able to execute the measuring program with any of the Calypso, Camio, Holos, Metromec, Mcosmos, PC-DMIS, PowerINSPECT, Quindos and Tecnomatix metrology software applications.
.
The benefits offered by interoperability in the daily use of CMMs are numberless. The use of a single application software package across all CMMs, or multiple applications running on any CMM, significantly reduces training costs and increases the programming skills of operator by allowing them to concentrate on a single application. Ultimately, expensive and complex translations of inspection part programs are totally eliminated and maintenance costs reduced.
ia.cmm member companies and their co-exhibitors, AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group – USA), NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology – USA), Meßtechnik Wetzlar and Siemens PLM Software will be glad to meet the Dimensional Metrology Community at CONTROL 2008, April 22nd – 25th in Stuttgart (D) – Hall 1, Stand 1612.
