Opportunity:
The ideal candidate for Fiber Optics Technician position will have demonstrated experience in a fiber optic or related production environment. Incumbent will be meticulous with details, and possess the skills to work with optical parts and assemblies. An appreciation for the importance of tightly controlled and repeatable processes is critical. Incumbent will be able to work independently within a team, and be able to clearly communicate through written and verbal means.
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Handling many aspects of fiber optics including: Splicing, Cleaving, Connectorizing, and Testing. Proficient in splicing optical fiber using both infusion and mechanical methods.
- Assemble, inspect, and test opto-mechanical and opto-electronic subassemblies and modules.
- Perform detailed and precise assembly operations requiring dexterity in handling small parts, and the ability to execute step-by-step instructions in a repeatable fashion.
- Use general purpose (microscopes and optical-visual aides) and highly specialized optical test equipment and unique apparatus necessary to verify Fiber-Optics parts conformance.
- Responsible for the execution of system level tests intended to verify product operation.
- Work with engineering staff to debug & troubleshoot failure scenarios.
- Use established electrical, digital, and/or mechanical principals and to perform appropriate tests to identify and solve problems encountered on the job.
- Efficiently and accurately work with multiple types of information and/or perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Complete designated amount of work in a specified timeframe (e.g., quality sub-assemblies per day), adjusting work assignments or schedules to meet changing work-related priorities or demands.
- Will work as a team to meet production needs and schedules and must be versatile to assist in all aspect of assembly and quality for product output.
- Gather and record relevant data during the manufacturing process. Assist with return/debug/rework of non-conforming parts.
Requirements:
- 2+ years experience with fiber optic products and related manufacturing processes, fusion splicing and general handling of fibers and fiber optic components.
- 3+ years experience in a manufacturing environment with hi-tech/electronic/precision products.
- Optical handling and knowledge a must. Experience with production and test equipment (power meters, lasers, mechanical fixtures/tools, cleaning solvents, etc.)
- Familiarity with general production material flow processes: receiving, inspection, inventory transfers, work orders, non-conforming product, rework, RMA.
- Candidate needs to be innovative, intuitive and proficient in troubleshooting skills, capable of interpreting engineering drawings, process instructions, and schematics.
- Must have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully in a team based environment that heavily emphasizes quality, performance, cross-training, customer service and high accountability.
